This new collection by Suki Wapshott pursues a softer, less structured style of painting, with a focus on the North Coast, where she lives and works, and the spectacular landscape of the Camel Estuary.
Suki’s focus as a painter has always been on emotive expression, achieved through freedom of process, gestural mark making, and her instinctive use of colour and form. Working with a palette knife, brush, oiled rags and her hands, Suki creates richly textured imagery and powerful compositions in responsive way. Her use of low set or dramatically high horizons convey the awe-inspiring grandeur of Cornwall’s coastal landscape, while her palette reflects the everchanging colours of sea, sand and sky.
