John’s oil on canvas and smaller oil on board paintings are defined by deeply textural palette knife and brush work, and a blue-toned palette that balances the rich golds, ochres and pinks of the Cornish landscape against the vibrant colour of the sky and sea. Capturing the coastline as it emerges from winter, through spring and into the glow of summer, his works are inspired by the shimmer of sunlight on tidal sands, rivulets of sea water rushing towards a retreating ocean, vibrant yellow gorse on the sand dunes and white field daisies drifting in a warm ocean breeze.
