Works
Overview

Laura Menzies is a contemporary British painter based in Cornwall. Her lyrical abstract paintings can be considered as visual poems, inspired by place, memory and emotion. Each work is created over time, through the application and scraping back of layers of oil paint, cold wax, collage and other pigments, in order to create a complex surface of lines, colours and textures that expose traces of the work's history.  Deeply sensory and evocative, these paintings aim to reveal things that are not immediately visible. They ask the viewer to momentarily loose themselves in their presence, providing breathing space from the world.

Laura trained at Birmingham University, graduating with a BA in Performing & Visual Arts before gaining an MA in Fine Art from Falmouth University. She has exhibited extensively in the UK and her work is held in public and private collections.
