Overview
Painter Max Leuchars attended Bryanston School, whose alumni include Lucian Freud, Sir Howard Hodgkin and Sir Terence Conran, where his art classes introduced him to various artists and methods that inspire his work today. Max travels widely and enjoys creating large scale paintings of the locations he visits and recreating the feeling of vitality in a place by applying thick layers of oil paint with a palette knife, and then scratching lines and marks into the surface in the sgraffito style to imply movement, as well as scraping back layers of paint and reworking his surfaces to give a two-dimensional feel to the image.
Max's artworks have recently been shown at London's Decorative Fair, Olympia Art, LAPADA, the Bruton Art Fair, and the 'A Way To Break Through' show.
We are pleased to have a small collection of Max's large scale works here at the gallery, including his very first paintings of the beautiful coastline from Polzeath to Rock.
